Issue #138 Journey to Becoming a Water Sommelier! From The Waterlady’s Desk

Hello, lovely water enthusiasts!
Today, I’m excited to take you along on a new adventure that’s both personal and professional: my journey to becoming a certified water sommelier! Yes, you read that right—there is, in fact, a formal certification for water sommeliers. Just as wine has its experts who can pinpoint subtle notes and origins, water too has a unique, intricate world waiting to be explored, one sip at a time.
So, What *Is* a Water Sommelier?
A water sommelier is someone who is trained to understand, appreciate, and educate others on the complexities of natural bottled water. This includes tasting, analyzing mineral compositions, identifying regional origins, and distinguishing between natural sparkling and artificially carbonated waters. It’s a journey into understanding the depths of what makes each source special, with its own story and characteristics, just like a fine wine or a specialty coffee. Becoming a sommelier means recognizing water as more than just a basic beverage; it’s a celebration of nature, geology, and culture.
The Certification: What It Means for the Bottled Water Industry
This certification, which I’m thrilled to be pursuing with Dr. Michael Mascha of Fine Waters, is more than just a personal achievement. For the bottled water industry, it represents a growing movement to highlight the depth and legitimacy of natural, single-source waters. There’s so much misinformation around bottled water—some see it as unnecessary or “just water.” However, as I dive deeper into the training, it’s clear that real, naturally sourced water brings distinct benefits and flavors that purified or tap waters can’t match.
By earning this certificate, I aim to elevate the conversation around bottled water and help people see the value in choosing authentic, mineral-rich water that is naturally filtered and enriched by the earth. This is about honoring the authenticity and care that goes into each bottle and helping our community make informed choices. For us at Salacious Drinks, it’s also a way to build trust, inspire curiosity, and encourage people to explore waters they might otherwise overlook.
Our Fine Waters Partnership: Water Tasting Boxes for All!
To celebrate this journey and to inspire all of you to appreciate water with a new perspective, Salacious Drinks has partnered with Fine Waters to curate two exclusive water tasting boxes. These boxes, carefully selected in collaboration with Dr. Mascha, are designed to introduce you to the world of water sommelier tasting. Whether you’re interested in trying different mineral profiles, experiencing various carbonation levels, or simply savoring the diverse flavors of waters from around the globe, these boxes are your invitation to discover water as never before.
One box features still waters with varying mineral compositions and origins, perfect for a relaxed, mindful tasting session. The second box showcases naturally sparkling waters, a true delight for anyone who loves those fine, champagne-like bubbles (you all know I’m partial to Saint Géron for this very reason!). Each sip will reveal a new layer of the story behind each source.
Come Sip With Me
Whether you’re a long-time water aficionado or a curious newcomer, I invite you to join me on this journey. Let’s sip together, learn together, and see where this adventure leads. Maybe you’ll even be inspired to pursue your own water sommelier certification—imagine a world where we all toast to the diversity of water as we do wine!
You’ll find these special Fine Waters tasting boxes exclusively on [Salacious Drinks](www.salaciousdrinks.com). Let's discover, savor, and celebrate water in all its pure, natural glory.
Cheers to the journey,
*Ashley, The Waterlady*
